Policemen & Peace Corps Members clash in Abuja (photos)

There was a bloody clash between the Nigeria Police and Peace Corps as police storm the office of the Peace Corps located at Jabi area of Abuja, to arrest their National Chairman.

According to Balogun, the encounter left 6 people seriously injured and two unconscious.

Former President Obasanjo storms out of Police event after the organisers kept him waiting for over an hour

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday stormed out of the maiden yearly special training and capacity development organised by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone II after the force officers kept him waiting for over an hour behind the scheduled time for the event.

Obasanjo had arrived venue of the event which was at Federal Palace hotel but the IGP and other important officials billed to be at the event were not yet there.

He waited for sometime and after 90minutes stormed out telling the organizers of the programme to get themselves ready next time before inviting him over for any function

"Next time, before you call me, please be ready,” Obasanjo said as he stormed out of the hall. According to him, he was returning to Ota, Ogun state to attend a function he left midway just to attend the police event he was invited to.

The event which was billed to start by 10:30 a.m., did not kick off until 11:52 a.m..

In my recent visit to Nigeria, I overheard a conversation between two roadside hawkers on the rising cost of living in the country and when one mentioned the word “change”, the other retorted angrily, “Holy ghost fire kill that change”!

Some Nigerians have become beggars because of the lack of work and non-payment of salaries. Even those that are lucky to receive their salaries regularly have seen their pay slashed or not able to buy as much things as they used to afford before.

Men Nabbed by NDLEA Confess: Money Made Us Insert Cocaine Into Our Anuses

Two men, Okechukwu Okonkwo and Lucky Ifedigbo, have told officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), why they inserted wraps of cocaine into their anuses.

But Okonkwo (44) and Ifedigbo (37) had different stories to tell on why they embraced drug trafficking. The suspects inserted seven wraps of cocaine each, weighing 350 grams into their alimentary canals to evade arrest.

Okonkwo said that he accepted to smuggle drugs because of frustration and also because he needed money to leave Brazil. On the other hand, Ifedigbo said he became a drug courier because he was looking at the profit margin. NDLEA agents arrested the suspects at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) Lagos, on Nigeria-Brazil route.

They were arrested during the inward screening of passengers on a Royal Air Maroc flight from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Casablanca, Morocco. The agency recovered 700g of powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine from the two suspects.

The Italian woman said she and her husband Enzo were completely delighted with their first baby.

She told local media: "I have fulfilled my dream. The future does not scare me."

Surprisingly, Maria Rosaria did not have any reproductive treatment to ensure that she got pregnant.

Doctor Stefano Palmieri, who oversaw the birth at a hospital in the Castel Volturno commune in the Campania region in the south-western part of Italy, said: "It was a peaceful pregnancy."

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has described those pushing for the sale of national assets as enemies of the country, who are only bent on acquiring the nation’s assets for their personal gain.

NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, told The Nation in an interview that they are against the suggestion that the Federal Government should sell off national assets to address challenges. 

To Wabba, experience has shown that privatisation has not worked. Most national assets Nigeria sold off have not done well; selling off the assets will not be in the interest of Nigerians.

Said the NLC chief: “First, most of our national assets they have sold under the banner of privatisation, non of them has succeeded. Many countries of the world has passed through this same period of recession and their approach to addressing the issue is not to sell their commonwealth, leaving them in the hands of a very few.
