Davido, Tiwa Savage, Flavour, Clarence Peters win big @MAMAs 2014

Nigerian talents, Davido, Clarence Peters, Flavour and Tiwa Savage have brought home a total of six awards at the just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards which held last night, Saturday, 7 June 2014.

Durban’s International Conference Centre resounded to electrifying live performances by Fally Ipupa, Don Jazzy, D’Banj, Burna Boy, Sauti Sol, Ice Prince, Sarkodie, Dr Sid, French Montana, Miguel, Trey Songz, Davido, Mafikizolo, Oskido, Tiwa Savage, Flavour, Phyno and Yuri da Cunha.

Davido, Mafikozolo, Uhuru and Clarence Peters were the big winners of the evening at the awards. Quadruple nominees Mafikizolo triumphed in the Best Group and Song of The Year categories, while Davido took home two awards, for Best Male and Artist of the Year.

Body of Nigerian girl who committed suicide in US has been found

The body of 17 year old Nigerian-American high school student, Omotayo Adeoye (pictured left), was found on Tuesday June 3rd, five days after committing suicide by jumping off the George Washington bridge into the Hudson River.

Her body was found floating few meters away from where she had jumped off the bridge into the river on the afternoon of May 29th. The police department’s Harbor Unit and Riverside Drive fished her out of the water. She was declared dead by emergency medical service officials.

Reports say Omotayo decided to take her own life after she was caught cheating during a difficulty German Language examination by her teacher at the high school of Math, Science and Engineering in Manhattan. She was reportedly brought out and disgraced in front of her peers. Supposedly ashamed of her actions and the humiliating consequence, she immediately left school with the intention of killing herself and also left a suicide note behind which read "I just want to go away forever on the bottom of the river.”.

According to school officials, Omotayo was a student who scored high grades in class....

BREAKING: 2 people killed as female suicide bomber strikes in Gombe

Reports coming in from Gombe indicate that two people have died after a female suicide bomber detonated a bomb along Biu Road.

According to TheCable sources: “The explosion occurred at about 11am along Military Quarter Guard, along Biu Road in Gombe.

“The woman had the explosive in her bag, but the thing went off prematurely. She was scattered by the explosion. Unluckily, she got a soldier as well.”

There are indications that the bomb had gone off prematurely as chances were high that the military quarters was her ultimate target.

There was an explosion three days ago targeted at the Gombe Government House but official reports say the incident was as a result of an “accidental discharge” in the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) stationed in front of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo’s residence.

There is no official statement yet on this explosion but we shall bring you more details as soon as we get them.

Sanusi Lamido emerges new Emir of Kano

The Kano State government have announced former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, as the new Emir of Kano State.

Sanusi Lamido- the first son of the marriage between late Emir Ado Bayero and his cousin- was born on 1st of April,1956

News emerged on the Kano State government twitter handle, followed by its formal announcement by the Secretary to the the State Government (SSG) Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi at the Government House.

The Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has described poverty as worse than the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, adding that nothing would make him, his family and generation return to poverty.

He said this at the fourth Nigeria Governors’ Forum retreat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Friday.

Okorocha stated that it was not necessary for governors and other political office holders to pretend they were poor, adding that paraphernalia of political offices had nothing to do with poverty.

“I was poor and I decided to fight against poverty and nothing will make me, my family and my generation to go back to poverty again. Poverty is worse than HIV. You can’t pretend to be poor.

Auto dealer excretes 52 wraps of cocaine

36 year old Imo-state born Anabaronye Ken, an auto parts dealer based in Lagos has been arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) officials after he excreted 52 wraps of cocaine at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. He was arrested as he was about to board a flight to France en route Milan, Italy. It took Ken four days to excrete all the drugs from his system, Punch reports

Some men from Imo State, who were heading to the North, were intercepted in Nsukka, Enugu State, by men of the Nigerian Army as they were travelling in disguise with a bus to their destination.

One of the army officers who spoke to reporters under anonymity disclosed that a Police Corporal also serving in Imo State Police Command was involved in the dirty arms deal. 

The army officer said: “When we asked the occupants of the vehicle to come down, we discovered a police corporal in uniform among them. The corporal on getting down pretended to be pressed; he later ran away."

Items recovered from the suspected Boko Haram arms dealers include 40 AK47 magazines, 4 boxes of AK47 live ammunition, 100 pieces of live cartridges, Mopol khaki and charms concealed in a cap.

The men have all been handed over to relevant security apparatus for appropriate action.

Boko Haram attacks Church: 12 worshippers, 6 militants killed in Borno

About 100 members of Boko Haram around 9.30pm on Sunday June 1st attacked the EYN Church (Church of Brethren, Nigeria) at Attagara village in Gwoza LGA of Borno state killing 12 of the worshipers in the church. According to Sahara Reporters, a senior security official confirmed the incident saying the men armed with guns stormed the church and opened fire on the worshipers. The source said the community members quickly mobilized and engaged the sect men in a battle which led to the death of 6 of the Boko Haram men.

40 Boko Haram Fighters Killed By Cameroon Soldiers

The battle against the deadly Boko Haram sect recorded some level of success at Cameroon border on Sunday as their security forces killed about 40 Boko Haram fighters in the country’s far north.

According to Cameroon state radio, the exchange of heavy gun fire occurred shortly after the release of two of the Italian priests and a Canadian nun suspected to have been held by the Islamist group.

Cameroon, which has been criticised by Nigeria for not doing enough to fight the Nigeria-based terrorist group, deployed over 1,000 troops in the far north last week to tackle the killer sect and it is now paying off.

Boko Haram Bombs Brothel Close To Army Base, 60 Killed

Military sources confirmed that several bodies have been recovered from the site of Sunday evening bombing in the town of Mubi in Adamawa state, which sent about 60 innocent Nigerians to their early graves.

It was gathered that the suicide bombers stormed the highly populated area which host a bar, football viewing centre and a brothel for their wicked activity while many were relaxing and enjoying the Sunday.

“We don’t have a precise death toll for you. Work is still going on to remove the corpses,” said the police spokesman for Adamawa state, Usman Abubakar.

Tragic news: Body of missing Nigerian graduate found in Delaware River (PICTURED)

The body of missing Nigerian graduate of New Jersey University has been found in the Delaware River.

22-year-old Ukonne ‘Uyo’ Uyobong was believed to have drowned after jumping into the river without a life jacket while on a rafting trip near Lumberland, N.Y., officials said.

His body was found around 5:45pm on Friday 5 miles downstream from where he had made the fatal jump.

His death appeared to be an accidental drowning and an autopsy will be done Saturday, Hinkes said.

When the Oguta community got wind of the abominable act after the violated and traumatized teenager reported the matter to a neighbour, some youths gathered to lynch the old man but he was rescued by police officers.
