Armed Robbery Pays More Than Our Jobs ––Suspects Confess

Two suspected robbers, Sikiru Oyebamiji and Afeez Salami, arrested by Lagos State Police Command, are of the view that robbing people is more profitable than their legal job. The duo was arrested in the Mushin area of Lagos and were also found with a locally-made pistol.

They were nabbed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SAS, on Friday, July 31, around 12.30am while they were allegedly heading for an operation.

It was further gathered that the duo had taken a cab from Oshodi, and the vehicle had got to a checkpoint around Mushin where SARS operatives asked the occupants to alight. 

The suspects were said to have ordered the driver to evade the policemen, threatening to shoot him if he refused...

'How I wish I were still a virgin at 39' - talking drum queen Ara says

Queen of talking drums, Ara, in a recent interview said if at all she has any regrets in her 39 years of living, it would be that she's no longer a virgin. She however said she looks beyond the regret because she lost it while still married to her now estranged husband and the father of her son, Saliu Olalekan, whom she later found out was still legally married with kids after tying the knot with her at an elaborate wedding ceremony in June 2009.

'How I wish I were still a virgin. Yeah, but it's a good thing I have a beautiful son from my previous marriage" she told Encomium.

'He made me undress and shower in front of him, then dragged me out and beat my face. I have no recollection of how many times I was hit, I just know my injuries that resulted from my beating. My injuries include 18 broken bones around my eyes, my nose is broken in 2 places, I am missing teeth and several more are broken.

Abuja designates Kuje General Hospital Ebola centre

The Abuja Minister, Bala Mohammed, has designated the General Hospital, Kuje, in Kuje Area Council, as Isolation Centre for possible Ebola-infected persons.

The minister also inaugurated a 25-member committee to work out modalities for responding to the threat of Ebola virus and create awareness on the nature and symptoms of the virus.

Mr. Mohammed made this known during a high powered stakeholder’s interactive forum in Abuja on Monday. Continue...

JTF Arrests 16 Female Suicide Bombers In Training+ Their Trainer

         
The JTF has arrested a man believed to be training female bombers in Dala Local Government area of Kano. The man whose name was given as Ibrahim Ibrahim, was arrested alongside 16 would-be female bombers following a tip-off. A top security operative told  The Nation that the suspect confessed that he brought the bombers from Sambisa forest in Borno State. 
The spokesperson of the JTF,Captain Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed the arrest but said investigations are still on-going. 

Ebola: Infected Spanish Priest Passes On

          

75 year old Fr. Miguel Pajares, the Spanish priest who was infected with the Ebola Virus in Liberia and was later flown back to his country has died this morning at Carlos III hospital, Madrid, Spain.

Fr. Pajares, was airlifted from Liberia on August 7 after contracting the disease while working for a non-governmental organization in Liberia.

Newly married nurse confirmed to have Ebola in Lagos

A newly married nurse who had direct contact with late Patrick Sawyerr, the Liberian with the first case of Ebola virus in Nigeria, has tested positive to the deadly disease. 

According to the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, the husband of the nurse is among the 177 people placed under surveillance.

He said that ten cases of the disease have so far been confirmed in Nigeria, two of them dead while eight are alive and undergoing treatment. 

A nurse who had direct contact with Patrick Sawyer died last Wednesday August 6th.

How My Lovely Wife Infected Me with HIV ––Husband Opens Up

The level of 'strife' in some families are mind-boggling. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Phillip Katongu, for allegedly stabbing his wife to death.

Mr. Katongu, who hails from Wamba in Nasarawa State was apprehended by operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigations, Yaba, Lagos. The police said his late wife, Justina, was stabbed to death in a street at Oniru Estate, Maroko, Lagos, where she and her husband were living.

Justina was stabbed in about three places before she died because she intentionally infected her husband with the dreaded HIV disease. The knife used for the murder had been recovered by the police. Justina, who hailed from Kauro, Kaduna State, did not have any child before her death.

It was also learnt that Katongu, who worked as a construction worker on the Victoria Island, had a wife outside the marriage in Nasarawa State before marrying the deceased...

Nigerians beg Obama to give Lagos nurse vaccine

                              

Nigerians on different social media platforms on Saturday asked President Barack Obama to give a vaccine, ZMapp, being developed in the United States to treat a Nigerian nurse, Justina Ejelonu, reportedly infected with Ebola.

On such websites as Facebook and Twitter, the petitioners begged Obama to release the vaccine to Ejelonu and other Africans suffering from the virus. The petitions were made on the White House website.

Ejelonu, who is one of those that were infected with the Ebola virus after treating the Liberian victim, Patrick Sawyer, has said she did not have direct contact with Sawyer’s body fluids.

The deadly virus, which leads to death in humans within days from infection, is transmitted through sweat, urine, blood, and other fluids from the body.

Rauf Aregbesola re-elected governor of Osun State

Incumbent governor of Osun State Rauf Aregbesola of the APC won yesterday August 9th keenly contested governorship election in the state. According to INEC officials, Governor Aregbesola won in 22 local government areas of the state while his challenger Iyiola Omisore of the PDP won in 8 local govt areas.

The returning officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Bamitale Omole declared Aregbesola winner having polled 394, 684 votes while Omisore polled 292, 747 votes.

33 year old Kelechi Williams, the prime suspected in the murder of his 39 year old lover, Mrs Lizzy Njideka Nweze, was yesterday August 6th paraded by men of the Lagos state Police command where he confessed to strangling the late mother of four and Senior staff of Edmark International Limited at her Green Estate residence on July 19th. He said he killed her because he found out she was cheating on him. Below is what he told reporters “Lizzy was my girlfriend. I knew her three years ago. But we started getting serious in February this year. I came back from Ghana to visit her on July 16, 2014 which was on a Wednesday. The next day we went out and came back late. On Friday, she told me to stay back at home and rest because I was tired. She left the house, saying she was going to the new apartment she was to pack into, assuring me she would be back as usual by 6 p.m. But she did not return by 6pm. Rather, the gate man came with a power generating set, saying madam had gone to drop the workers. When it was 8 p.m. and I did not see her, I started calling her on phone but she did not pick.The story continue........

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Ariane Rummery, the Chad Government has signified interest in moving the women and children to a habitable village where they can settle and get minimal comfort.

Nigerian nurse dies of Ebola virus as FG confirms 7 new cases

Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, speaking today August 6th at a news conference in Abuja said a Nigerian nurse has died from the Ebola Virus. He said the nurse worked at the Lagos hospital where Liberian Patrick Sawyer was treated. He said she died yesterday August 5th. He also revealed that five medical practitioners who interacted with Sawyer have been confirmed to have contracted the deadly virus

"Nigeria has now recorded seven confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease. The first one was the index case, which is the imported case from Liberia of which the victim is now late. Yesterday, 5th August, 2014, the first known Nigerian to die of the EVD was recorded and this was one of the nurses that attended to the Liberian. The other five cases are currently being treated at the Isolation Ward in Lagos.” he said

The Minister noted that all Nigerians diagnosed with the disease had primary contact with the late Liberian man. He then announced the appointment of Prof. O. Onajole, of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, who will be based in Lagos, as the Director, Communication and Community Mobilisation for the Ebola Virus Disease.
