Three Dead As Female Suicide Bomber Blows Self Up In Kano

                                

Another female suicide bomber blew herself up at the entrance gate of the Central Administration block of the Kano Polytechnic, on Wednesday, killing two people and injuring seven others.
The incident, which occurred at about 2.30pm, led to a stampede among members of staff as well as final year students, who were going through a list of successful graduates mobilised for the Batch B of the National Youth Service Corps.
Eyewitnesses said the suicide bomber, who was carrying an Improvised Explosive Device, approached the institution located along Bayero University, Kano road.
Security agents have since cordoned off the scene of the incident as officers of the Police bomb squad have begun investigations.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adenrele Shinaba, confirmed the deaths of the suicide bomber and two persons as well as the seven persons who were injured.

The BBC however, reports that six persons were killed.

He said “The teenage female suicide bomber sneaked into the crowd and detonated the Improvised Explosive Devise she concealed leaving on its trail death and destruction.”
Shinaba said the impact of the blast blew the suicide bomber into pieces, adding the charred remains of the female suicide bomber had been deposited in a morgue.
He enjoined residents of the state to be extra vigilant and report suspicious movement to security agents for proactive action.
Kano has come under attacks by suicide bombers since Sunday.

The Presidency is denying the story that it has bribed the Chibok girls' parents in a bid to buy them over and in the process block them from relating with the leadership of the Bring Back Our Girls campaign. A member of All Progressives Congress (APC) in ward 9 Ilesa East, Osun state, Tolu Adeosun, was shot to death on  25 July, right in front of his house around Osun Ankara, in Ilesha.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected fraudsters identified as Kola Osho, Oyedepo Adesola and Kola Ademola, who allegedly specialize in withdrawing money from people’s bank accounts using dud cheques. 

 

According to Punch, the police said the suspects usually obtained the cheques from people who are experts in stealing cheque books from unsuspecting people, then they will present the cheques to their insider in the bank, who will dubiously verify the account holder and the signature before the money could be paid out. El Rufai's son Hamza El Rufai died this morning in a fatal accident. Here are pics from the accident scene. Hamza was driving the black Lexus car (pictured above) when he ran into a stationery blue colored Volkswagen Saloon car around the Ningi Barrack along A.Y.A - Kubwa road aroudn  5.30amthis morning July 29th.

Two persons were involved in the crash but only Hamza died. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, his corpse was taken to the national mosque by his parents while the crashed vehicles were deposited at the Maitama Police station. Ebola Virus Outbreak: Lagos State To Begin Search For Those On The Plane With Liberian Victim

                                   

The Lagos State commissioner for Health, Dr.Jide Idris, has announced that the State has begun a search for those on the same flight from Togo to Lagos with Liberia’s Patrick Sawyer who died of Ebola viral disease last Friday in Lagos. Mr Sawyer is the first known case of Ebola viral disease in Nigeria. Dr Idris disclosed that each of the passengers will be watched closely for the next 21 days. Hear him:

Ebola Virus Outbreak: Arik Air Suspends Flight Operations To Liberia And Sierra-Leone

                         

Arik Air’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ola Adebanji, has revealed in a statement issued yesterday in Lagos , that the airline has suspended flight operations to Liberia and Sierra-Leone following the outbreak of Ebola virus in the countries. According to him, the suspension would be in force until further notice.

Over 670 people have died as a result of the disease outbreak in West African countries.

Photo: Police avert another bomb blast in Kano

The Police in Kano state this morning July 27th averted what could have been another fatal bomb blast in the ancient city. Police operatives averted the calamity after discovering a Peugeot 406 car with registration number AA 513 ZAK, loaded with explosives at the mosque of Sheikh Isyaku Rabiu at Goron Dutse. Bomb experts neutralized the explosives immediately and no casualty was recorded.

Boko Haram kidnaps wife of Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister

The wife of Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister, Amadou Ali, was kidnapped this morning July 27th after men of the Boko Haram sect stormed her home in the northern town of Kolofata, Cameroon's information minister and government spokesman revealed.

Mrs Ali was kidnapped alongside her domestic staff and one other person. The insurgents also killed 3 people in the attack on Kolofata, a town in Cameroon's Far North Region near Nigeria

Colonel Felix Nji Formekong, the second commander of Cameroon's third inter-army military region (RMIA3) based in the regional headquarters of Maroua, said the sect members are believed to still be in the town fiercely engaging military officers

"The situation is very critical here now, and as I am talking to you the Boko Haram elements are still in Kolofata town in a clash with our soldiers. Some of them have already taken away the wife of Vice Prime Minister Ahmadou Ali and her house help while the bodyguards of the Vice Prime Minister have succeeded in taking him out of the town to Mora," Formekong said, adding that there could be more casualties" he said

34 year old Fatima Bankole, was recently battered by her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, for taking a piece of fish from the pot to break her fast. The victim is the first of his three wives, at their residence in Alasia, Ijanikin in Lagos State. The attack happened on the 16th of July, when the third wife reported to their husband that Fatima took fish from the soup to break her fast. The husband, according to witnesses, did not listen to her excuse before attacking her. The victim, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, said her husband had always physically abused her, but the incident of  July 16th was more brutal.

16 church members suffocate, one dies at service

A six year old boy has been confirmed dead while 16 others are receiving treatment for suffocation after they inhaled carbon monoxide fumes from a generator they were using during worship at the Young People's Christian Fellowship in Aba, Abia state today Saturday July 26th. 

According to eyewitnesses, the worshipers were doing their Friday night vigil with a generator close by when they started to collapse one by one. Residents of Eziukwu road where the worship centre is located woke up this morning to find the worshipers unconscious. There were initial fears that they'd all died but all of them, except a 6 year old boy, recovered in the hospital. 

The victims are all on admission at Austine Grace Hospital as well are Goodness & Mercies hospital in Aba and are all said to be responding well to treatment...

Police arrest First Class honors graduate, others over internet fraud

The Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) have arrested a 6-man internet fraud syndicate that includes a First Class honor graduate who specialize in designing the organisation’s websites and using same to defraud unsuspecting job seekers, this is according to a report on the Nigerian police website.

A petition dated 22nd August 2013, received from OPEC FUND for International Development alleged that a website designed as “OFID Scholarship Website” with OFID name and logo has been used to defraud innocent Nigerian applicants.  That in the website, applicants were required to pay N2,500.00 as an application fee and over 2,000 applicants responded and paid the fees through the First Bank Account Number 2020874607 and Access Bank Account Number 0056941009 with the name OFID WSAS NG.  The petitioner stated further that it was one of the victims that contacted OFID via facebook, accusing OFID of being complicit in the fraud.

In his latest piece in The Punch, singer turned columnist, Etcetera, takes on something more interesting:

Few weeks ago, I got a call from a friend asking me out for a drink, but I was already at the Lagos airport. “I’m not going to be around for the next few days,” I told him. “I’m going to Abuja.” His immediate reaction was: “Why? What’s wrong? Do you want to bore yourself to death?” That’s the typical response I get whenever I tell someone I am travelling to Abuja. Abuja is a beautiful city with a terrible reputation for boredom. I have heard people in other cities speak of Lagos as a noisy, dirty and dangerous city filled with crazy people. In truth, everyone in Lagos is crazy.

What else do you expect in a state crammed with 22 million people?
It must be a hell of a job for the governor and his officials keeping everyone under law and order daily. Lagos has a peculiar vibe that can’t be found anywhere in the world, so much that “Lagos Hustle” is a commonly used phrase among Nigerians. I would rather go crazy living in Lagos than be bored to death in Abuja, Ibadan or Enugu. Abuja leaves you chewing your finger nails out of boredom. If you doubt me, whenever you have a visitor from Abuja, check his/her finger nails. They are always short and well chewed. Even the Hausa local nail trimmers have all migrated elsewhere due to the nail scarcity.

It is said that people in Lagos argue for at least two hours daily. It is true; we love to generate arguments out of everything. We argue everywhere; in buses, during church services...

Indian rape suspects beaten by angry mob after 7yr old girl is found hanging from a tree

One man was killed and two others were badly hurt today by villagers in India who accused them of raping and hanging a seven-year-old girl. The girl was discovered hanging from a tree near the village of Kaliabazar, West Bengal, this morning and angry villagers quickly rounded up a local 'Tantrik' holy man and his two friends.
