Olalekan |
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday arraigned one Adagun Olalekan before Justice O. A.Taiwo of the Lagos High Court, Igbosere, for allegedly impersonating a United States’ soldier.
The EFCC said Olalekan impersonated the soldier, Lt.-Col Cadin Webb, and duped one Diana Snow.
It was learnt that Olalekan’s arrest followed a complaint by the United States Department of Homeland Security, alleging that the accused had been impersonating Webb, who was on special duty in Afghanistan.
Olalekan was arraigned on 17 counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretences and possession of fraudulent documents.
The charges read in part, “That you, Adagun Moshood Olalekan (a.k.a Lieutenant Colonel Cadin Cayce Webb) on or about 6th day of October, 2013 in Lagos, within the Lagos Judicial Division with intent to defraud obtained the sum $800 by false pretences from Diana Snow by falsely representing to her that you are one Lt.-Col Cadin Webb, which representation you know to be false.”
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecuting counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the prosecution had its first witness in court and was ready to commence trial.
But the defence counsel, L.O. Balogun, said the defendant had already filed an application for bail dated April 14, 2014.
Oyedepo, however, told the court that he was just served the application in court.
Taiwo adjourned the case to May 15 and 16, 2014 for trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Ikoyi Prison.
